Business challenge: The client sought insights to support product refinement and new product development for intra-factory communications. Specifically, the company needed to understand which roles and functions are the heaviest users of communication devices, current communication practices, operational challenges, and unmet need within the plant manufacturing environment.
Methodologies: We conducted nine in-depth interviews with users and decision-makers responsible for radio or related communication devices within food manufacturing facilities. In addition, two ethnographic site visits were carried out to observe real-time communication workflows among production workers and supervisors.
The result: The research identified key use cases for intra-factory communication solutions, particularly among line workers and supervisors. Actionable insights on critical performance drivers, pain points, preferred device features, were used to inform product innovation and development.
